BOOKS SUPpORTED BY OUSRHH:

Netaji, Azad Hind Sarkar and Fauj. Removing Smokescreens 1942-1947: (see cover below)

Available for purchase at:

Suppression and distortion of historical facts, events and personalities by political leaders, ideologues and colonial apologists have been a consistent effort in order to serve the vested interests as far as the personality of Netaji, the heroic struggles of Azad Hind Fauj, and the people of Indian origin in South-East Asian countries are concerned.

In spite of the classical works of Azad Hind Fauj officers published as their memoirs or books, the history of this armed struggle for the liberation of the motherland was not only suppressed and distorted but was sidelined in history books.

The present work is an attempt to remove the smokescreen that had been deliberately planted as a cover to hide from the present generation the historical realities that explain the sacrifices of Netaji, and Azad Hind Fauj.

The author was inspired to pen this work after having curated the Netaji and INA museum at Red Fort as the chief historian. This book apprises the readers with many such aspects that have remained in the archival files only like the M. Organization, Azad Hind Dal - a nationalist organization for governance, the Rani Jhansi Regiment - the first modern women fighting force, Netaji at the battle fronts, attempts on Netaji's life, the honours awarded to AHF braves and so on.

Similarly, it highlights the massive contribution and sacrifices of a shepherd to a millionaire of Indian origin in South-East Asian countries. It discusses the spying missions, trials and executions, and demolishes the so-called plane crash theory of Netaji's death.

The book also discusses the role of certain families and individuals besides the disappearance of the Azad Hind treasures and the role of the Prime Minister of Indian dominion, Jawaharlal Nehru, in relation to the AHF in compliance with Wavell/Mountbatten) and Auchinleck.

The author has also demolished the plane crash theory of Netaji death". In fact, the book unveils many unknown facets which may be an eye-opener for all those interested in Netaji, researchers, historians and young readers.

  • Revealing Supressed Realities: Colonial Plantations and Indian Indenturers: (see cover above)
The present edited work provides an alternative to the established colonial narrative on Indian Indenture labour history. The contributors have based their arguments on a variety of sources to challenge the so-called colonial benevolence in removing Indians from their homeland to almost entirely permanent settlement in distant, foreign colonies. The plantation economies, in order to save themselves from ruin after the abolition of slavery re-packaged it in a new form – Indentured labour . To procure it India was converted into the biggest market. Oppressive practices, deceit, manipulations, false promises & allurements – the established colonial tools – were opperationalised to facilitate smooth flow of labour under the garb of agreements converting India into the biggest labour recruiting nation.

The agonies of this new human trading were not confined to economic aspects alone . It generated wider and serious social , religious and psychological implications for the Indian community in alien lands which the contributors describe as the trauma of Indenture. This trauma emerged from the recruitment methods , long hard ship journeys , betrayals of so called agreements , separations from the loved ones and the toiling conditions in plantations. The Indian community struggled for survival seeking solace through its religious scriptures and was able to provide a slightly better life for its future generations in totally hostile environments – another theme dealt by the contributors.

Time for apologists to realise coining new terms like migration or mobility studies to describe  Indentureship, cannot wash the blood stains of indentured history. The oppressed and exploited have their own historians now  to unearth suppressed realities and present them to the contemporary world. This work will not only be of use to social scientists but all Indians, the Indian Diaspora and all those who long for historical accuracies.
